Ross Noble comes to the Marlowe Theatre this Wednesday.

Hello February! Here’s our pick of entertaining things to do this week (Monday 2nd – Sunday 8th February). From the provocative to the playful, this week is all about performances… and free pizza. Enjoy!

On Monday night, the Gulbenkian is screening The Testament of Youth (15) at 6:30 PM, a powerful drama adapted from Vera Brittain’s memoir detailing the struggles of a young girl pursuing her academic goals against the backdrop of World War One. Alternatively, the Gulbenkian Cafe hosts The Paper Stage, a free ‘lively and experimental’ play-reading session of Renaissance drama.

As part of LGBT month, the Gulbenkian is showing film Weekend (18) on Tuesday evening, at 6:30 PM. It is an honest and naturalistic film following a weekend of physical and emotional bonding between two men who meet each other in a nightclub. If it’s music you’re after, the Marlowe Theatre hosts its very own Young Musician of the Year on Tuesday evening, showing off the musical talents of local youth. The show starts at 7:30 PM.

Stick to the Marlowe on Wednesday to catch one of Britain’s best comedians, Ross Noble, in his new improvisational stand-up show Tangentleman. Tickets are £25 and the show begins at 7:30 PM.

Make sure you don’t miss the Refreshers’ Fair this Thursday and Friday in Eliot Dining Hall, from 11 – 4 both days. This is your chance to get involved with any clubs and societies you wish you’d have joined last term! Also, there’s free pizza. See you there.

Try something a little different this Saturday and experience a stunning adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel ‘The Beautiful Damned’ at Charlton Place, a gorgeous ballroom venue and a ten minute drive from Canterbury Bus Station. It’s a little out of the way, but the luscious, jazzy and atmospheric performance promises to be worth the trip. More information, tickets and directions can be found here. If you want to stick to a more local performance, the Marlowe hosts its second big comedy name of the week, Josie Long. Catch the exuberant and lovable TV comedy-panel regular in her ‘most personal show to date’. Doors are at 8 PM and tickets are £15.

The Gulbenkian offers a feast for your senses this Sunday with their showing of Goodbye to Language in 3D (15), a new experimental and provocative piece of cinema from New Wave French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. Tickets are just £6 for students.
